The MVA started more than 30 years ago as an informal gathering of a few professional violinmakers. Its membership and mission has evolved over the years. We are now refocusing our attention to better serve the needs of professional violinmaker luthiers (including restorers, repair, bowmakers) and musicians.
Michigan Violinmakers Association serves local Michigan makers, as well as those residing out of state and internationally. We hold quarterly meetings the last Sunday of January, April, July, October. Featured speakers present on various topics ranging from instrument set-up and varnish making to acoustical research. We also publish a quarterly newsletter containing articles by some of the top American and international professionals in the field.
Visit our upcoming events / articles section for more details. We also have an extensive lending library which is available to members in the US, Canada and Mexico. Our newly launched website is a resource for members that will supplement the quarterly newsletter. We are interested in suggestions on how to best develop this platform.
We are entering a new and exciting time for our organization, and look forward to expanding the group and providing quality education to our members.
